Is there such a thing as a
Homosexual Christian? Or is this an oxymoron? Or perhaps
this is the wrong question altogether? As the “Same-Sex
Marriage” debate heats up in Boston, politicians,
religious leaders and gay-rights activists across the
nation are all watching and jockeying for their
respected positions. Mans wisdom is on parade. It should
prove to be quite a show!
The most radical redefinition of marriage in centuries
is going to have deeply disturbing consequences. Listen
to the written words expressed by Chief Justice Margaret
Marshal in the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court
opinion finding a constitutional right to same-sex
marriage; “Certainly our decision today marks a
significant change in the definition of marriage as it
has been inherited from the common law and understood by
many societies for centuries,” and she continues “But it
does not disturb the fundamental value of marriage in
our society.”
That is either the most dishonest assertion or the most
naive. Either way, it is false! Thankfully the tide of
public opinion seems to be changing. Even the Gay
activists feel the tide is turning against them.
However the real issue at hand here is not “same sex
marriages” but rather Homosexuality. This issue can only
be solved in the light of God’s wisdom and not man’s
wisdom. “The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by
understanding hath he established the heavens.” Proverbs
3:19 (KJV)
To find out what God has to say about Homosexuality we
must turn to the authority of the Scriptures. For far
too long now man has set in judgment of the Word of God.
We must remember that it is the Word of God that judges
us not we the Word of God. The Word of God says what it
means and means what it says. If we find things in the
Word of God that we do not agree with or seem
unreasonable to us it is we who must change to conform
to the Word of God. We can never change the Word of God
to conform to our thinking or to our ways of life. “What
thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt
not add thereto, nor diminish from it.” Deuteronomy
12:32
The story of Sodom and Gomorrah found in Genesis chapter
19 is enough for most honest hearted people to conclude
that God does not and never will sanction the sin of
Homosexuality. God loves the Homosexual as He loves the
Adulterer and desires both to repent of their sins.
“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the
kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators,
nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor
abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor
covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners,
shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of
you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye
are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the
Spirit of our God.” I Corinthians 6:9-11
However, those that desire to justify their lifestyle
exhort to Biblical gymnastics. These acknowledge the
Biblical account of Sodom and Gomorrah to be true but
rather than this account condemning Homosexuality they
assert that in fact the condemnation in this story is of
Homosexual rape not of Homosexuality and that God
Himself endorses all loving, committed relationships
regardless of the gender of the union. This is of course
not a Biblical view or a correct interpretation. Some
will try to make a very humanistic appeal and say that
there is a distinction between a brutal act of
Homosexuality and respectable Homosexuality. There is no
such thing as “respectable” sin! “For all have sinned,
and come short of the glory of God;” Romans 3:23. We all
find ourselves locked into a world of sin. Sin finds
different ways to express or manifest itself (i.e.
drugs, murder, adultery, and homosexuality) but it is
all sin. Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he
cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” John 3:5 There
must be a heart change in a saved individual. The saved
person now sees his sin in the light of God’s Word. His
disposition to sin has been changed and consequently
does not continue in that sin. This is not to say that
one might accidentally slip back into sin but that the
lifestyle of sin should cease. “If we say that we have
fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and
do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is
in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and
the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all
sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive
ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our
sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins,
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say
that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his
word is not in us.” I John 1:6-10
This Worldly thinking, a deluding of the Word of God has
even entered into the so called church. Pastor Cornelius
Brantley of Grace United Methodist Church believes and
I’m quoting him that “Homosexuality is a gift from God.”
While the Scripture tells us that we are made in the
image of God (“So God created man in his own image, in
the image of God created he him; male and female created
he them.” Genesis 1:27) nowhere in Scripture is it
written that “Homosexuality is a gift from God” because
indeed it is not. Homosexuality or the act thereof is a
sin. Just like adultery or fornication are sins. God
loves the sinner but hates the sin. Likewise we are
called to love the Homosexual but hate the sin of
Homosexuality. Abuse, mistreatment, and persecutions
toward Homosexual people should not be found coming from
the Church of the Living God.
Scripture is quite clear on the matter. “Thou shalt not
lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.”
Leviticus 18:22 This Hebrew word for “adomination” is
to-ay-baw' and defined as follows: “properly something
disgusting (morally), that is, (as noun) an abhorrence;
especially idolatry or (concretely) an idol: -
abominable (custom, thing), abomination.” Listen to one
modern translation of Leviticus 18:22 “Don't have sex
with a man as one does with a woman. That is abhorrent.”

Another scripture which speaks to the abomination of
Homosexuality is again found in the Book of Leviticus.
“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a
woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they
shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon
them.” Leviticus 20:13
An abomination is not open for debate with God. An
abomination is always an abomination with God. But those
that seek not to repent and justify their ways will do
what is commonly referred to as “Scripture Twisting”.
Let me give you one example of Scripture Twisting. Some
will say that an abomination isn’t always an abomination
and they’ll quote Isaiah 1:13 which says “Bring no more
vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the
new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I
cannot away with; [it is] iniquity, even the solemn
meeting.” They want you to believe that “an abomination
is not always an abomination”! By sighting this
scripture they are trying to suggest that poor old God
doesn’t always mean what He says and say what He means.
After all are not worship services, prayers of the
saints, offerings unto the Most High things which God
Himself ordained to be done. So how could what God has
commanded to be done in fact be an abomination! Because
they were mixed or done with iniquity! Even attending
Church, praying, giving of alms, healing of the sick, if
done “with iniquity” is not acceptable with God.
The New Testament is not silent on the issue of
Homosexuality. Let us read what Paul under the
inspiration of the Holy Ghost wrote concerning
Homosexuality and other sins. I suggest a complete
reading of Romans chapter one to get the context in
total. But for space sake I’ll only list verses 26
through 32 “For this cause God gave them up unto vile
affections: for even their women did change the natural
use into that which is against nature: And likewise also
the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in
their lust one toward another; men with men working that
which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that
recompence of their error which was meet. And even as
they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge,
God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those
things which are not convenient; Being filled with all
unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness,
maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit,
malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God,
despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things,
disobedient to parents, Without understanding,
covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable,
unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they
which commit such things are worthy of death, not only
do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”
Romans 1:26-32
Is it the “theology of the world” (the study of the mans
thoughts) we appeal to or is it the “theology of God”
(the study of God’s thoughts). The theology of the world
is void of repentance and void of the newness of life
that the Bible tells us that born again believers have
experienced.
The issue is not equal rights for all. The issue is not
same sex marriage. The issue is not discrimination. The
issue is not treatment. The issue is sin. Christianity
and Homosexuality will continue to collide. It’s
unavoidable while there is a true Bible believing Church
in the earth. |
