I have asked myself numerous times throughout my life as a part of the body of Christ, “why all the push to worship”? Have you ever asked yourself, what is
up with all the hype? While “hype” has filled many churches today worship is something totally different. When we speak of the worship of God we are
speaking of something that belongs to born again believers. We express our love and thanks to our creator for breath and life. “Give unto the LORD the
glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.” (Psalm 29:2)
Worship is our expressed acknowledgement of who God is and for His revealed truth in our lives. “I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name
for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.” (Psalm 138:2) It is our way of expressing our commitment and
continued devotion to His Word and His ways and not our own. In other words the worship of God is something that those not born of the water and the
Spirit (John 3:5) cannot fully do. “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24) Worshippers know that
God’s thoughts take root and grow in our life’s best in the atmosphere of worship. Worshippers know that healing and deliverance is found in the midst of
worship. Worshippers know that worship is a direct response to a relationship with God and that worship is a life style rather than an event that occurs one
or two days a week. Worshippers know that worship is a result of being in God’s presence.
The tabernacle of Moses is a shadow of how believers enter into the presence of God. The outer court represents thanksgiving; the holy place represents
praise; and the Holy of Holies represents worship. Psalm 100 tells us to “enter into His gates with thanksgiving.” "Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye
lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we
ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him,
and bless his name. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations."
The unregenerated cannot truly worship God, however they can and do watch born again believers worship! They see our joy. They see the love which is a
result of a relationship with God and witness the reality of God in believers lives. They see the benefits of serving God. “Blessed be the Lord, who daily
loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.” (Psalm 68:19)
True worship is a powerful witness! On the day of Pentecost God’s presence was so powerful that it overflowed the upper room and 3,000 people were
saved that day alone! Remember those disciples were there in obedience (Luke 24:49), they were thankful, filled with praise and were worshipping. It was
the witness of Paul and Silas’s praise and worship that set the keeper of the prison free. (Acts 16:23-33) And it is in the midst of our praise and worship
that great earthquakes in the Spirit begin to shake the very foundations of the prisoners of sin so that they may find forgiveness, deliverance and the power
to obey God’s Word. Our worship of God is not a mere formality! Our worship of God is perhaps the greatest outward witness of an inner presence and
peace. “And they overcame him through the blood of the Lamb and the word of their witness; and loving not their lives they freely gave themselves up to
death.” (Revelation 12:11 ) “Their testimony evinced their victory over him by virtue of the blood of the Lamb. Hereby they confess themselves worshippers
of the slain Lamb and overcome the beast,”. (from Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown Commentary)
When unbelievers enter our congregations, care groups, and Bible studies they should witness our worship and feel the presence of God first and
foremost! Worship is a choice. It may culminate in emotion but it begins with an act of the will. The modern church views worship as something they do,
i.e. the raising of hands, dancing, leaping for joy, crying, or even laughing. While these are all Biblical expressions of worship, true worship results from
the inner feelings between two individuals or in this case between God and His children. The worth of your worship cannot be measured in this life time!
